I'm looking at buying a 97 geo metro 3 cyl manual tranny...but it has a problem with second gear.

https://vancouver.craigslist.ca/van/cto ... 59042.html

On my driveway I have a 91 Chevy sprint 3cyl. Manual transmission That is known to be good

I see the dif fence in tire size and am wondering if the transmission are comparable

Many thanks. Roy

Same trans and final drive.

I have seen a fluid change fix that 1-2 synchro problem

I pretty sure the final drive ratio in the 91 tranny will be one step taller. It should bolt tight in and give slightly less acceleration and slightly more highway mileage. Only problem is, a 200K 3 cylinder is probably down on power already.

If you do this, swap the speedometer drive assembly, they're matched to the tire diameter. You could put shorter tires on your wheels to offset the gear change. If you do that, keep the speedometer drive from the 91 in the transmission you're installing.

You're right. For some reason I thought it said a 91 Sprint vert trans.

4.39 vs 4.10

It will work but the car will feel slower and likely get worse fuel economy under anything but ideal conditions. Those little motors need as much gear as you can give them

If you are buying the 97 to drive..the second gear engagement issue might also be linkage needing adjustment and/ or bushings replacements.

200k kilometer ls showing on the odometer in Canadian spec car = 124k miles.

thankyou for the information...the craigslist add has been deleted because I bought the car for $400.i think I could of gone even lower as the guy said just make me an offer any offer..he wanted 650.

So when I got there it had a flat tire so I did not drive it but the inside was tidy it started right up and sounded like it had no extra goings on.in the motor..
I'm tired of getting 18 mpg in my ranger..so it has to get me 8 miles to work and back..and just run around town on the weekends that it..
If you want il let you know how it goes?

And I priced a transmission at pick a part and it was $90 cdn
