Yes you are... I find it mind boggling that the 2004 onwards Swift was never sold in North America, it's one of the most successful small cars of all time and more than 5 million (as of April 2016) have been sold worldwide, all you guys get is the horrible little Mitsi Mirage and the Chevy Spark

Actually I'm not laughing now as the all new Spark has just won the New Zealand car of the year    one of the cheapest cars you can buy, must be good because the old one wasn't.

My photoshop skills are a bit rusty, but this car needs to be offered in a traditional 2 door format

I have no doubt they will make a 2dr version, AFAIK traditionally the Japanese and Indian factories only made 4 door RHD versions and the Hungarian factory made both 4dr and 2 dr versions in both LHD and RHD, its also produced in China, Thailand, Pakistan, Malaysia and Vietnam.

No north America Swift since 2004 because exactly, it was so successful and they already had 3 factories failing to meet the demand. no point in importing that to N/A. It would have been successful in Canada, but in the US, in an era of gigantic SUVs, not so much.

No need. As long as you import for driving only on your private property =) , or for car shows only.. you're good to go..

more so since suzuki and gm broke up and suzuki pulled out of the north american domestic market, the new swift never got proper homologation to meet safety and emissions standard for the usa. it was suggested that the new swift was available in mexico and that we should just acquire one there and bring it into the usa.

ah, if that were only possible! importation of a new swift would require that you obtain a special letter of conformance from the manufacturer. suzuki, having never done the requisite testing to meet usdot regs, would never provide that document. thus, you would never be able to legally register the car for operation in the usa.

personally, i would never want to face the consequences of sneaking one into the country and faking the registration so as to be able to actually drive the car. the hit from the usepa alone would be $15000us. the false registration would mean federal prison time. totally not worth taking the chance!

I actually really don't mind the four door swift. They camouflaged the handle pretty good in the pillar so to have a nice running line on the side of the car.
A lot of us that grew up with the gti have kids now. So that extra door is handy.
I must be getting old.

you can see the suzuki influence on korean cars like the aveo (konos) and chevy spark with the treatment of the hidden rear door handle.

having owned both the aveo and spark i can tell you that the 4 door versions are more versatile than would be a 2 door model. the 4 door cars are every bit as handy in that you can fold the rear seats down for hauling large items. the rear doors make it easier to wrestle large items in through the hatch.

this summer past i hauled 6 foot long lumber in the spark with the hatch closed and 12 or 16 foot lumber with the hatch open. the 4 door cars are very versatile.

Like how bill gates couldn't drive his 959?

What are the penalties in Canada? Just curious. The worst that I can see happen is not being covered by ICBC in an accident when it matters.

The most interesting development for Grey market is the limited production class manufacturers that build less then 325 cars per year to sell in the USA.

These would be exempted from crash testing standards but still must meet EPA emissions. Easy if they use an already certified engine from another manufacturer.

Some enterprising person could bring in a few hundred Swift Sports once there is further progress in efforts to consolidate global emissions certification standards so that country by country testing is no longer necessary.

OK. I made the door longer and chopped the roof off. Come on Suzuki, build it and sell it in North America!

I don't like the spark. The Kia compact car looks way better.

Here's another Suzuki you won't get, its 4" shorter than the new swift and weighs less than 1900lbs, they even has a hybrid 4wd option but doesn't seem to be available in my part of the world.
Looks like we only get the 1.2 4 cylinder version, they do make a 3cyl 1.0 turbo model 8)

I spotted one in our local Suzuki dealer, already pre sold, quite funky, packaging wise they are a bit like the Honda Jazz/Tardis like in terms of room inside versus exterior size.

Only 2 to 3 more years to wait in Canada and they will become fully legal :P
