You can do it, no problem.
I've used both the 10.5, and the 11-1, and prefer the 10.5 with a little more ign. timing. You can easily run the 11-1 on 94 octane, but you have to pull the timing back a bit.

Not really. Use Mk1 non turbo pistons.

I was just reading, and I seen were my XFi has only 2 rings insted of the usual 3. Would this hinder my ability to run higher compression? It makes sence to me that it would, but I don't know if it's been tested or not yet.

EDIT: If so, I'll trade my 2 ring pistons for 3 ringed one. I guess people want the XFi parts for milage. I just want to go fast.

Your 2 ring pistons are the ultimate in a go-fast, low friction setup. If I were building a naturally aspirated 3 cyl. race motor, the 2 ring piston would be my first choice.

I have been offering a performance head package for some time, and because of the gret deal of interest, thought I had better post it up here.
This is the deal,

Performance head package, 89-up 3cyl.

In the performance head package, you get a completely rebuilt, ported and polished head, machined for high compression. It includes a high performance cam of your choice. During rebuild, valve guides, and seals are not checked, they are automatically replaced. The valve seats are ground to 45 degrees, and the valves are ground on three angles, and polished for increased flow. The valve grind is an excellent compromise of performance and longevity. All valves are hand lapped during final assembly. The head mating surface is machined for high compression, 9.5-1 to 10.5-1, or higher by special request. 10.5-1 is the standard.
Intake and exhaust ports, and bowls are ported, with the greater emphasis being on the exhaust side, for increased exhaust flow.
The hydraulic lifters are removed, disassembled, inspected, cleaned, and re-assembled. Any defective/worn lifters are replaced.
With the head package, you get a proven 3tech performance cam of your choice.
The price , in USD for 2005 is, $375/exchange. You can send your head for modification, as well.
There is a polished stainless steel exhaust valve option, at $50. Further customization is always welcome!

I am working on a fuel economy package, to go with the new fuel economy cam. It should be ready soon.

so has the 3cyl head been dynoed? run at the strip?

i haven't yet lost interest in the economy head, but all these damn ricers in radford va are driving me nuts

if i've missed it in my searches, pm me. i'll look some more. most of what i've read are just positive reviews and how much faster and better it feels.

these damn college ricers are bad enough to make me want to build up a turbo metro

Superf1y, would you be interested in some cores? I may be able to get hold of 2 95 up heads and 2-3 94-90? heads. Not sure on price, but I can look in to it.

Sure.
I'm always looking for cores, but the problem might be shipping.
Let me know.
I'm interested.

Sure.
Let me know what you want to do.
The stock head setup on the Mk1 motors is already pretty good for economy, but not so much for power.

I will be making a trip to my favorite junk yard the first Saturday in June. I am hoping to pick up the heads for you then, but I have a laundry list of other parts also, but I am definitely going to try.

Ussually the head pkgs come complete with cams.
If you wanted a GT head package with the core head included, we'd have to work out a price.
I have a few heads, but ussually I do the GT pkgs on a customer supplied head.

What magic can be done with a MK2 turbo head/cam ? Unfortunately I'm limited to 91 octane fuel - did the factory leave enough performance gains on the table to justify the cost of getting some head work done?

Sure.
The most important thing is to get a cam in there.
The whole idea is airflow, and this is doubly realized in a turbo application.
You remain at stock boost, yet flow substantially more air.
The port/polishing is just icing on the cake.
I would remain at stock compression ratio for 91 fuel.

I need to apologize. I was unable to get back to the junk yard before I left Virginia. I was really hoping to get the heads because I would like to do it on my car, but it will have to wait for now.

suprfly are you still doing performance heads? How about cams? Do you regrind stock cams or buy them from....who?

I just bought a 1990 Metro with a "bad motor" and I haven't even had time to open the hood. I'm going to get all the stuff lined up so I can do it without the long wait. I will pull the head and ship it first.

PM me with your zipcode so I can price freight.

Ive had the head in for about a week and ive never been more satisfied with my car. The cam really makes a world of difference! Throttle response has improved greatly. Turbo spools quicker. Overall, more snort. Money well spent. The work looks beautiful and feels the same! Great work. :P

I need an honest opinion from people here.... I am in a spot where economically, I shouldnt really go with this package but i can squeak by if I do.... But I already have a performance cam and +10 gear in the works, if i put those in and spend the $45 the local shop charges to mill the head, am I going to be missing out on THAT much of a performance gain? Please help me!
