I've looked over this site and did some googlefu. Haven't found exactly what would be needed to swap. I have read that the 1.0 transmission can be used with the j18. What else is needed? Obviously trans mount needs to move over and wire harness is needed. Computer and axles. But what donor vehicles would be best for the swap? What axles would be needed? How much bigger is a j20 or j18 compaired to a 1.3l?

it will "fit", lots of fab work

if you're going with a j series
go for a j23 out of an aerio and use a esteem 1.6l link tranny or a esteem 1.8 cable shift setup

you can get an adapter plate that'll allow the g10/13 tranny to bolt up to a g16/j-series motor, the samurai guys run them

Looked at an adapter plate. But says its for American 1.6 8v or 1.6 16 motors. Would the j engines work with such a plate? I would most likely go with a j18 or j20. I have yet to find a j23 or j24 locally. Am only looking for around 200hp.

The J series engines use the large frame gearboxes. (cable shift)

Also I don't think the 2.4 is a J series.. I think that is a K series but I could be wrong..

A 2.3 out of an Aerio is only 155Hp but it also makes the same amount of torque which will be an ass load of fun.

Getting it all to fit in the engine bay of a Swift is another matter in of itself but it has been done.

I'd get the entire front clip of an Aerio and use the whole thing, subframe, spindles, everything. It will also have all the parts you will need.

So front end wise the areio is the same dimensions as a swift?

I would say no. I had an Aerio and it is definately a bigger car. But getting the entire front cut of a car gives you everything you might need including wiring and a computer.

I also wonder if the transmission would fit the mk2 as well. Like mount to stock mount. Haven't seen an areio round these parts for awhile. So I haven't had a good look at the engine bay. Would be nice to get some dimensions.

Well I know there is an 05 around in a scrapyard somewhere with minor frontend damage that was in great running condition when it got wrote off. 8-(

It is something I considered too but I just don't have the time.
