YES! 1 tooth is 18* advance because the crank rotates twice for each cam rotation, 1 tooth is too much, advance it one tooth and you'll see really quickly, it runs like crap.

Okay, so for say a GTi with the G13b engine, on stock cams, putting in a set of adjustable cam gears...are there benefits?

Say I want to increase my low end, so I advance the intake cam a few degrees, are there any drawbacks from this, dangerous to the engine or otherwise?

i run a g13b on fast road cams with stock cam gears and i advance the inlet cam by one tooth and it drives much better than on stock timing. I guess the cam gears on the gti and the 3cyl engine are very different
