Where can I find a convertible top replacement with a zippered rear window over the web?

http://cgi3.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBay ... d=best-man

you can also just type a.a.best co. into google and it'll give you the link to their web site. these is the business where tuffcarguy got his camel colored top with the tinted, zippered window.

color and material options, tinted and/ or zippered vinyl windows bring a premium price - over $200US plus shipping. a new standard, black EZ-ON top can be bought for around $180 if you locate a trim shop jobber locally.

The best top in my opinion looks the best. The heat sealed seam is hidden by the extra top material and looks more professional.

please elaborate.

the last 2 tops i installed went on flawlessly. i don't have any leaks at the door and window seals and i can close the tops easily without having to stress the header.

best tops are considerably more expensive than the EZ-ON tops i've settled on. i figure that it's a replacement item like tires and that the life of a top is 5 years max, even for an expensive one. once the vinyl starts to stiffen up, it's time for a new one. a cooked, shrunken convertible top will damage the frame and break the plastic latch blocks. the hardened vinyl also causes frayed tensioning cables and damage to the cable pulleys.

when you add the cost of new hardware, adhesives, cables, and installation time to the cost of a deluxe, added feature top the cost per year goes up pretty quickly.

one last thing to add to the growing data base on vert tops. if the snap (mark 2) or plastic clasp (mark 3) on the strap that supports the floating bow above the rear window pops open when you put the top up, you're past due for a new top.

T3 ragtop

Hooptie/TMD and I put a new top
on my 91 (blue vert)
I got off E bay from C.A.P out of cali
we got it on just have a couple of question maybe you could
Inlighten me this is my first top

We started at the front the top look like high quality
in the front it has like a pocket the front of the header peice
fit into like a glove so we rolled the edge of the top so the front seem is

just underneath the header edge glued it then moved to the back were
the top is screwed down with the hex screw the top has around the back
of the top a stirp of plastic sewn on it

is that pastic piece a gasket for the hex screw ??
is there any side to side adjustment ??
the whole top is so tight will it relax ??

just behind the door glass there is a hole were the top does not strech down far enough
just were you screw the stanless strip to it
it took both of us to latch the top
the top looks good
just to tight

thanks

the front seam of the top should be rolled just slightly under the header. it sounds to me like you pulled too much material under in the front. there are little flaps on the sides that pull under the removeable steel panel that create a corner with the material sewn into the front seam. somethimes you have to stretch the vinyl 2 ways at once to make those corners on either side of the header.

the vinyl seal that is sewn to the back edge goes on the outside of the flange that is held down by the screws along the back edge.

the seal works with the flange, not the screws. the screws have little plastic washers under their heads that conform to the holes in the flange.

the side to side adjustment gets made as you pull the flange down tight. start with the center screws and work out as you pull the wrinkles out of the vinyl to each side.

the vinyl will shrink as time goes on. a new top should go up easily and the header should meet the top of the windshield and seat in the plastic alignment and latch blocks with one hand.

try to move the front seam right to the edge of the header panel. that seam should live just past the break point at the front of the header panel.

there is a little bit of an arch that should be exposed in the corner just behind the side windows. there is a plastic wing just behind that arch that gets pulled down tight and and is held to the inner cowl with a plastic clip on each side.

did you find the holes in the flaps over the windows for the tensioning cables? the last 2 EZ-ON tops i've installed have had cross shaped slits for the cables on each side. that makes the tensioning cables pull the top's material down when the header flips forward into position. you might look for interference on those cables.

i'd start with pulling a little more material back away from the header. there's a little bit of a learning curve but it starts with getting the tools out and jumping right in. your next try will get this top straightened out. the next top you do will be perfect. :D

the mk2 verts have a nylon strap with a snap on the floating bow over the rear window. the mk3 verts have a plastic cam type lock. i actually prefer the mk2 type, it's much more durable.

good job guys. :D

for all practical purposes the stayfast cloth is sail cloth.

i have had this top on my red vert 2 years and it looks as good now as when i first installed it.

i don't think it will ever shrink like a pinpoint vinyl top.

JefferiySr this is your only warning - if you post one more embedded link like the ones i have had to strip out of your posts i will remove your ability to post altogether.

this is a suzuki swift and variant forum and you are posting in the metro vert section. this is not the place to discuss a mustang.

read the forum rules and straighten up.

Replaced my top last week. Switch to tan due to the Florida summers are a bit hot. My phone app showing current "feels like temp 103 today. Purchased off of flee-bay for under $200.00. there was a 24 dollar up charge for color. Would give it a 9.5 out of 10 score. Upgraded to the second gen pulley wheel brackets I pulled from a junk yard a while back. See the different designs on the second pic. Have the side trim off, painting them with Plastic-Dip to help match the rubber trim.

Yep. The bottom ones were my original ones. Note the cracks in the wheel. The others were pulled from a junkyard about a year or so. Didn't know there was different versions till I pulled them. Just like I didn't know there are at least 2 generations of corner window seals till last year. Unfortunately I only found one side and could loosen up the bolts to pull the frame part to match. :(
