I am going to start a sister build thread for my gl to gti swap. I want to keep my hyundia trans swap in the tranny section so it dont get cluttered up with the rest of my build.

To start i have the whole car apart except for the dash and rear bumper. I spent the better part of 20 min removing the tar sound deadener from my floor pan, i took a ballpen hammer and gentaly hit the tar working from one side to the other. The floor pan will flex but because the tar is old it was brittle so as i worked at it with the hammer it started to come apart in big chunks. when i got it all out i weighed it and it was 3lbs from just the front and rear floor boards.

After i get my cable shifter mounted in going to install a no name sound deadener i got on ebay. im also relocating my batt to the spaire tire well so it will be out of the way and you wont know where it is if you dont look really hard.

I have started my fender flaires to extend the wheel well out so i dont hit the body with the car dumped. The car is as low as i can go while using the stock style struts. im welding in new upper strut mounts to lower the car another 2in.

I got a few thing in the mail today so ill post some pictures later tonight. I have a question tho, well its more like whats your opinion. I am painting my new calipers red and was wondering if i should pain the bracket red as well. i have a little over half of a jar of brush on caliper paint left over from the first set i did so i have more than enuff to paint to do the brackets as well.

I would have the brackets black and the calipers red.

Time to update everyone on the progress. I finally got a set of mk3 gt tail lights that i have always wanted and also scored a Geo metro center section that has the bungs for lights. I still have to do my fiberglass rear bumper to get rid of the cut out for the license plate
New&Old
Image Image

Now since mine is an mk2 i had to take some brackets and two pieces of a mk3 to get the center to fit. i also found some rust so i cut out the whole section out of my parts car.
Image Image

The final repair with the tail light brackets and the bungs to bolt it to the car.
Image

I also had my wheels powder coated white.
Image Image

I also finished up my 4 wheel disk conversion. EVERY part is new minus the knuckles and the left front caliper, drilled and slotted rotors, ss braided brake lined ceramic pads. new bearings and seals. i also installed some extended wheel studs out of a wrx, they are 50mm 12x1.25.

Since I am doin a wire tuck and some sever cleaning up of the engine bay i relocated my batt to the rear of the car. The batt is a optima 51.
Image Image
Image

I also installed two racing seats, And lowered the mounting point for the rails as low as possible.
Image Image

I also installed pillar mount seat belts last year so i could get rid of all the weight in the doors.

wow that's a lot of woman Scott. Well i underestimated the time it would take to mask the car and the amount of masking tape, I just got done spraying the car like 40 min ago so I'll post some pics after work tomorrow before i start putting it together, so it has the recommended 16hrs to cure.

Here is a teaser pic tho.

Were those rims white before you re-sprayed them? I have a set of 16" SSR's for my GT-FOUR Celica I'd like to re-paint, and would appreciate it if you could give me an idea of the prepwork process. The SSR's are pearl white but I want to respray them in the Toyota SuperWhite to match the car's body.

The wheels were painted black when i bought them new, then i had them powder coated white. idk about painting your car Scott, Iv had two painters with 20+ years tell me its pretty good for my first time, but if i do another one it will be done differently, because now i know what im doing........ kinda. ill let ya look at it first and see if ya like it.
I got the wiring ran and got the dash in. and almost all the weather striping and moldings. if anyone know's where to find the molding clips that would be awsm.
