Hi,

I am new here and have a mini with a Swift MK1 GTI engine,I am planning to pull some more power from it and wonder if anyone knows if it is possible to use a distributor without vacuum advance from a MK2 on my MK1 with standard ECU or what mods I need to do.

if you want electronic advance you will need the mk2 mk3 ecm with wiring (and intake mass air flow injectors ect..) on mk1 engines head intake and fuel injection are different desing, it can be done depending on room you have in the engine bay...

Or get MSD blaster 6a ignition control... as it will not need to use ECU because it will use 2 wires from hall effect in the distributor.

how to tune the map on msd 6al? does this thing have presetted map or it is tunable?

AL is lite and improved version of A...

AND I don't even try to install A on my T3 yet :lol:

I don't think so... I just read the instruction and it will spark that based on ignition timing of the engine itself... you can buy separate igniter to retard (or maybe advance? can't remember) by up to 3 degrees...

If you want tunable map then you need piggyback or standalone ECU. Remember that ignition timing would NOT make your engine goes faster and more powerful... just smooth and response well.
