I know these cars are really rare in the states . Ive only seen 4 ever including the one I own. I figure we could use this thread as sort of a GT registry. Please put your state and if the car is operational . ill start

1994 Swift GT Registered in Wahiawa HI, User J_Swift lives near me and says he also has at least one shell and a ton of parts, but I'm not sure if either is ever going to move again. One other GT is rumored to be driven on the island, but I've never seen it.

OMG .. you need to learn research modalities .. you are only using a basic website that caters to a small sample of owners (demographics) .. and you are trying to use this to justify your conclusion ...

I saw two whilst only a short time in San Francisco .. I would guess neither visit this site ...

And the biggest part .. there is a whole full worl outside of your limited USA demographic that you have excluded ..

There would most likely still be thousands still in the USA and more up in Canadia (yes that is what our moronic ex Prime Minister called it) and then in Europe and the Asian Pacific you could add still more ..

You need to take your narrow eyes and expand them ... (You also have Mk1's Mk2's and Mk3's to take into consideration) and I would put your 3cylinder Mk1's into this class as they are equivalent ..

You are correct . but I wouldn't even think there are 100s left in the USA . I know they are like civics in other places in the world .I follow instagram users in Argentina and they have a whole gang of gti cars.

More in Canada.

I have a 92 GT. I am always looking on Craigslist for additional Gt(i)s, and they do pop up every couple months. I would say a lot more pop up in British Columbia Canada. I wouldn't even have a ball park figure for how many are left. Too many variables to even get close.

wow Neo_mk1, the whole point of his post was asking about them in the USA.
They weren't popular here and only had a 4 year run.

I have a 93 white swift gti, I keep meaning to start on it...sell it...butcher it. I cant bring myself to do it
Bought and registered in 2006, haven't driven more than 500 miles since then

wheels, cams, chip, headers, SR20 throttle, MSD, 2.25" exhaust (don't mean to offend anyone since ONLY the USA uses inches :P)

It's ok I have tough skin and we have had limited runs on many cars styles here in Oz as well that mean small numbers compared to the big sellers.

An example to this is the Mk1 GTi 1986 - 1988 supposedly the only figures we can get is that an importer (ATECO) brought in approx 200 of these cars in those three years .. so does that mean only approx 200 of these are here in Oz? No the number after we found out other companies also imported the cars (eg Mayfair Motors here in Qld brought in about the same number) so the numbers are far much bigger than what people had believed.

If it had of only been the first number of 200 - then I have owned/sold or stripped around 10 of these so that is 0.5% of all the cars imported and that is in a very small circle.

The biggest threat to our Mk1 GTi is not age or young drivers (or those that think these pocket rockets are indestructible) yes they have decimated the numbers, but it is now the other older car enthusiasts such as Morris Mini, other Suzuki owners (4WD) and the racing fraternity who are grabbing the 'donor' cars for bargains just to use the great Twin Cam motor as a replacement for their crappy engines. The Mk1 is the most popuar as it is the easiest to change over and has the vacuum distributor and simplest ECU

This threat is now spreading to the later model Mk2/3 GTi's

The numbers in the USA for the GT/GTi would be an interesting fact to find exactly how many were imported -and how many have crossed the northern border from Canada. Then you could do some calculations as to how many still exist.

Honorable (USA spelling) Moderator passed this way yesterday.
He's a pretty decent driver with plenty of nice visits left on his trip.

I have 3 of them.

One red, one faded red with no transmission, one black.

The black one is a Canadian car.... don't know how it got licensed in the states.

I have not seen any in my area, I got two of mine from the Seattle/Tacoma area of Washington state.

I am in the Eastern Washington area. One of mine came from a guy who bought it from a car lot in my area.

I see one or two of them come up for sale yearly in the Portland, Oregon to Seattle, Washington area.

Based on this I would think there are several thousand in the Northwest USA.
