How much power are you aiming for?

You won't need those con rods for the power you're looking for.
Remember, stock GTi rods (and crank) are forged.
I'm using stock GTi rods at 18psi. Should be making around 205hp.
As long as it doesn't detonate, you'll be fine. I'm also using water / meth injection to help with that. Btw, I do have those max speeding rods. But I haven't used them yet. Maybe they're good for 275+hp.

Anybody have any follow up experience with these? I'm hearing a lot of good things, most of the negative comments are those who are assuming they are junk.

There is a clearance issue I have read with the beefier studs/bolts that go with. I don't think it was that big of a deal though.

Currently running spool forged rods which are very similar to the max speeding ones... the only clearance issue is the main cap girdle hits rod bolt head... a slight bend/ tweak of girdle fixes it very easily. I can't speak for the max speeding rods but I love my spool rods.... well made and very tough.

Still have mine yet to be used. Hopefully this year. :(

But I have doubts; The rods are heavy which will influence performance. If I use these rods I'll use bigger low compression pistons which will also influence performance. To compensate for this I assume I'll have to use a bigger turbo than the td04-13t, which will also affect drivebility.

I've yet to find a bigger turbo but with quick spool up for my application.

You mean the 2 brace on the main caps that only comes in the mk2 engines?

These rods are lighter than stock rods. You're not going to need a different turbo simply because you're using different rods. I'm using a Td04-13t and love it.

I ordered these rods and am going to give them a try.

Yes that's what I mean.

I bought a set of these, but am hesitant to use them. They do not have the oil spray hole drilled into the top of the main bearing section. I've heard this jet is for dissipating heat from the piston and not necessary with a quality piston. I'm worried about the increased oil pressure on the main bearings though.

Can a good machineshop drill that hole? Is it a possibility? I'm willing to drill mine.
I just took mine out last weekend, I'm going to weight one. To me it's heavier than a stock rod.

They are lighter than factory rods and I am sure that a valid machine shop could drill those holes to match the stock rods. I have ran rods like these without that hole with no issues of high oil pressure.....these engines don't seem to have the high press issue its more like a low press issue most of the time.....

Allright. Got it.
Yup, the oil pressure gauge indeed gives a pretty low reading at operating temperature.

I ended up having the machine shop drill the holes to match stock rods. As noted before with these rods, there is a clearance issue with the rod cap bolts and the main cap girdle rail. I had to file the girdle a bit to get the bolts to clear.

Not yet.. getting very close. Still a few wiring bits that need buttoned up. Here a few pics including the grinding on the girdle I was talking about.
