I have a 92 1.0 that I am building up. I bought a newer 94 coil for it. the plug is not the same, it takes the small two prong snap over and lock on type. I would like to find out if anyone knows which pin is positive and which one is negative.
thanks in advance
Mike

My 93 had a Diamond F-088 coil, attached with wirenuts, which died, am replacing with a Richporter Technology C-640 Ignition Coil from Amazon ($14).

I also need to know coil polarity. An ohmmeter is useless because the ohm or so of the primary is swamped by the kilohms of the secondary, so you can't find the common lead that way. I think you want the ECM drive at the common point to the 2 windings so the voltage to the spark plug = +12V ignition voltage + voltage spike from primary when its drive stops + induced voltage in secondary. If you attach the ECM drive to the free primary terminal, the common is clamped at +12V by the ignition (battery), thus throwing away the voltage spike developed in the primary when the drive current stops. A web search yields a technique about a flare from a pencil point placed in the arc, which I regard as somewhat bogus. I did take a scope pic of the drive from the ECM to the coil, I suppose I could take one with each polarity and try to dope it out. Will present findings in a separate post, so I can attach images.

On my 91 and 92 the black wire is positive I've the brown is negative. As backwards as it seams.
