Post subject:  Vitara piston and rods questions for 1.0L

I am aware the block will need to be bored to the correct size to fit the new pistons. My question is will the vitars pistons and rods fit the stock crank? or will a turbo crank be need to install said pistons and rods? I can't find any information on the crank size between both the 1.0L sohc crank and the vitara 1.6L crank. Any help would be a plus.

I don't know about the bearing size, but the 1.6 has longer rods. I believe you have to use GT rods, which should be the same as the rods in the t3.

And if you're doing that, then you should probably use 1.3 16V SOHC pistons. I don't think the Vitara piston is a good choice.

i used vitara pistons in my last turbo3 build because doing so reduced my base compression rate to something around 8 to 1. that leaves plenty of room for boost.

if you plan on running them in a normally aspirated g10 that engine will be a dog! :blackeye:

Future plans are for AMR500 supercharger. But in the mean time it's nice to know I could use 1.3 pistons. Are they the same bore? I cant remember if they where the same bore and storke?

Herro? Anyone have anymore input on this? Building a turbo 3. Have it stripped down and ready for parts but I'm looking for better boost pistons. Read a little bit on the veetars but I wasn't sure how it would effect the CR. Is it true it drops the cr cause that'd be swell. Any extra information would be appreciated. I want to drive this thing very badly

the pistons i used from the turbo vitara are 75mm which requires the max 40 thousandths cylinder over bore. with the increased volume they provided an 8:1 base compression ratio - wonderful for a high boost application, crap for a normally aspirated build.

quick tip - when using the vitara pistons, use the wrist pins from the twincam or turbo connecting rods. they are a thumb pressure fit using clips or teflon button keepers. they have a thinner wall thickness which makes the assembly lighter.

Awesome thanks for the reply. I just picked up a 1.3 dohc flywheel and connecting rods with pistons and was wondering how the stock 1.3 pistons are in the g10 block. Do they change the cr and do they keep it a non interface motor? The block is completely Stockard in really good shape so I didn't wanna bore if I didn't have to (save for future builds if applicable)

i'm a turbo guy. you need to talk to the hi cr n/a g10 guys.

mike cove took over the selling in the piston group buy and i know that he has machined the piston crowns for use with the g10 head.

The compression ratio will increase. G13 has a shorter stroke, so higher deck height and it's a flat top. I've measured it but can't recall what deck height will be. Anymore than about .25mm above the block is too much, and even would be best, but I think it works out ok. Compression should be about 10 to 10.5-1. You can't make the later G10 an interference motor.
