Ok so I decided to jump on the band wagon and do the conversion. After much time reading how and what I need I thin I have a good base plan to start with. As this is my daily driver I'm going to have to make sure and take my time and get it right. As of now the parts list is almost complete and work will begin soon (when I get a free weekend)

Parts are as follows:

Weber 32/36 DGAV (used) $50 --Thanks craigslist!!!

Suzuki Samurai Manifold adaptor (new) $40 --Carbs unlimited

Quick fuel- fuel pressure regulator (new) $30 ---Summit racing
Image
Fittings- 3/8npt to 5/16 barb and 3/8npt to 3/8 barb (new) $8 -----O'Reilly Auto parts

Aluminum 3/8" to 3/8" coupler with hose barbs and 1/8" inlet for gauge (new) $8 ----Summit racing

Weber 32/36 high elevation jet kit ?

Fragola Fuel pressure gauge (new) $18 ---Summit racing

Hoses- 3/8 fuel hose and 5/16 fuel hose (new) $10 ---- O'Reilly auto parts

I'm not sure about the throttle cable mount. Maybe I could steal it off of the old carb?
I have a few questions about mounting location due to the regulator needing to be mounted after the mechanical fuel pump. Which Is right next to the intake manifold forward of the firewall and intake. May just have to be one of those where it fits it fits.

If I am missing anything please let me know.

Like stated above I will have to wait till I get some free time to do this. And I will be doing a step by step (with pics) on how I got it done.

Question and comments are welcome.

EDIT: It's been awhile so I figured I'd do a lil update. Seems an Ebay seller (which I will leave nameless) decided to take my money and not send me my jet kit I ordered. So I am stuck waiting for another one from a different source. Saddly I am out the $60 I paid to the other person which set me back a little bit on this project. Got a new FPR due to a leak in the Holly one. And found a good fuel pressure gauge. So soon, I will get this back on track and have some pictures up of the progress.

Started working out where the FPR will be located. I am thinking of mounting it to the firewall Behind the carb. Next step will be just pulling it all apart and putting it together. Then getting some picture while I do so.

4th of July weekend is coming up and I get 4 days off in a row. So that to me sounds like a great time to tare into this project. Well 3 days. We wont count the beer drinking, grilling and blowing up stuff day.

I am excited to have secondaries that work :P

Well today I started taking a crack at installing the weber. In the beginning I though I didn't have a fuel return line originally on the car. After a closer look. There is a return line.

Now reading a lot of talk on the interwebnets and talking to a mechanic friend of mine. There seems to be debate between people over the fact if the return line is really needed to make a carb function properly.

It makes sense to me to have the line there as it is basically a vacuum line keeping a steady pressure through the fuel system. Even thought I will run the FPR after the mechanical pump. I fear some sort of problem will happen if the return line is capped.

Am I wrong in doing this or can I just run the single fuel in line?

probably would have helped if I mentioned it was for an 87 sprint. Getting rid of the hitachi in favor of weber.

Still looking for an affordable A/F meter at the moment. Not looking to spend $300 on one.

I can live with a little rich to be honest. So it's not detrimental as of right now. It's also looking like I am going to have to fabricate a accelerator linkage. Or maybe buy one for a samurai. As long s it pulls counter clockwise.

Ironing things out is the big deal here. Trying to do things on a budget. 8)

Good quality wideband kits are going for around $150 these days... You don't have to pay import-taxes either so it can't get better than that ;).

Where are you finding these for $150? I assume it is without A/F gauge. Most of the "kits" I find are way higher than that. In the range of $300 or more. That is with gauge. Cheapest kit so far has be $200ish. With gauge. Maybe I should check Ebay or something. As I've been dealing mostly with summit and jeggs.

Well my sprint was totaled Monday so I will no longer be doing this project. Time to move on I guess. This car will be missed. Maybe I can find another sprint somewhere local?

Ouch....

I am seeking the intake manifold from an 88 and I also wanted to try the weber conversion to get rid of my Aisin Carburetor. (USA used Hitachi)

Found an 86 and will be doing the conversion to it in the future. Things will be a lil different as I will also be supercharging it with an AMR500. So different floats will be added.

Anyway you are a lil late as the car was sold for scrap in July. But I made sure to get some parts for future use :)

Anyway another part for this conversion would be the Suzuki Samurai throttle cable bracket and throttle lever. Which I have on order ATM.
