i dont know why they had to cut away a local mechanic say all i have to do is move the firewall a bit and get a custom petrol tank then a ke70 starlet diff would fit becuase the car is leaf springed is that true

Yes, you can definately convert to RWD.

If you decide to do that, however, you will pretty much be doing every single thing custom. Few people have properly documented let alone attempted a rear wheel drive conversion. Try this on for size as far as how much care and attention is usually required for RWD setups:

At the risk of provoking someone's ire - the G13A is an engine designation - and I believe that particular engine was commonly used in the Samurai, so, there's no conversion necessary just shift the transfer case in to 2WD and you've got what you're asking for.

So - if you're serious, at least tell us what vehicle you're trying to convert - if it's front wheel drive, then yes, you will in most cases need to cut the firewall. Most FWD cars built are transverse engined and you'll have to turn the engine 90 degrees and cut the firewall to clear the transmission.

By the way - I don't think the KE70 was ever sold as a Starlet - as I recall it's a Corolla, dating back to the late '70's & early 80's.

Why is the real question? why don't you just sell your barina and buy a starlet??? it will save you thousands and you won't have to mess around getting a modified vehicle cert.
Better yet, buy a starlet and stick a suzuki g13b twincam engine in using the suzuki SJ413(samirai?) gearbox, plenty of people have done the conversion already.

If you did want to convert your mk1 then you can just turn your exsiting engine around 90' and bolt it up to the sj413 box, the transfer case is separate and rwd box is designed to bolt up to your engine as that is what the sj413's already have.
You will need a new exhaust manifold, new engine mounts, new gearbox cross member mounts, find some other steering rack as it would be in the way of the box, enlarge transmission tunnel, new fuel tank, starlet or escort diff, handbrake modification, certification and then you think any insurance company would actually want to insure your car???

Just to convert your exisiting mk1 to rwd would cost at least $3k and thats doing it super cheap with some work yourself and you will still be left with a Mk1 barina thats worth no more than $1000, like I said, buy a starlet if you want to downgrade to rwd.

I pulled out those pistons out of storage, they are flat top's so do have higher compression than standard if you are interested.

The problem is you need hp to do good skids and the g13a doesn't have a lot of that.

I realised last night after I posted that those pistons owe me much more than I offered them to you so I'll give you 3 days if you want them otherwise I'll sell them on here for a more realistic price as they would be perfect in a mk1 g10 engine atmo engine, sorry matey.

Honestly if I were you I would just buy a mk1 gti.
