Hi ,, I have a 87 Chev Sprint Automatic.. Only 56,000 miles on it but after sitting all winter and replacing carb it won't up shift
In other words it stays in low all the time
I am a retired auto mechanic just need to know the secrete..Thanks

You can narrow your problem down fairly quickly. Find a small two wire plug coming off the transmisssion near the drivers side. Unplug it and go for a drive, if the transmission now works as a full manual (shifter position becomes gear with no auto control, for example "d" is now third and will start out in third), then you have a control issue.
If you unplug it and it still only has low then you have an internal transmission issue, mechanical or hydraulic, which is fairly unlikely.
I have seen this exact symptom many years ago when I worked on mk1 generation suzukis, it was the speed sensor which is in the speedometer head. Quite simply it wasn't working so the car didn't know it was moving, therefore wouldn't shift out of low.
Check this and report back.

But I'm thinking he can't build pressure to shift
clogged oil filter..?

drain a little oil out see if there any water in it make sure it is pink and smells fresh if not change it and Clean OR change your filter.....jv&s
