Hi I wonder if anyone can help me identify the cause of a grating noise from gearbox clutch area
The car is a 2008 1.3 petrol manual swift mk3 UK spec the noise stops when the clutch is depressed it increases with engine revs, it makes no difference if in gear or neutral
I'm struggling to use the file upload  so heres a short youtube video the sound quality is not too good

Sounds like the transmission input bearing. Check your fluid level first.

Thanks Woodie i have changed the gearbox oil but it made no difference, searching around the web there are two opinions input shaft/transmission bearing or clutch release bearing,is there anyway to tell which it is for sure without taking the gearbox off?

The clutch release bearing should be at rest when your foot is off the clutch pedal, unless it's adjusted too tight. Let a turn or two off your clutch cable adjustment to ensure that there is free play there. If the noise doesn't go away, then it's definitely not the release bearing.

Thanks again, clutch is hydraulic so no real way to adjust it but i'm thinking its the gearbox  . i was clutching at straws hoping it would be the release/throwout bearing
