I have a 87 sprint 5sp and the synchro are bad, it keeps jumpimg out of first gear, i put another tranny in and it last 60k miles and started doing it also on a used tranny when someone was borrowing it, i beleive they forced first gear while moving to fast, so i have 2 with the same issue and cant find another tranny for under 500 dollars used when i can find one, what all vehicles used the same tranny that would be bolt in and go. I cant seem to find parts to fix the 2 trannys i hqve that need 1st gear synchros

All G10/G13 FWD trans will bolt up and work, but there are some different final drive ratios.

That info can be found here

Although I haven't messed with it personally, I'm sure there's a bunch of reasons that the mk2+ transmissions don't easily bolt into mk1 cara (unfortunately!). Something in particular with the mountings just being so different and such stops it from being feasible if I remember correctly.
So indeed many trannies will bolt up, but aren't easily useable, if someone offers you a new 1st and perhaps 2nd gear, rebuild with new parts and go that direction, very unlikely to wear a new set out before the car is done.

I think there was only supposed to be one difference, the PP on a Mk1 would rub on the inside of the Mk2+ bellhousing, but I did the swap and did not experience any rubbing. It was a long time ago, but i don't recall any differences that made it a difficult swap.

We need a mk1 guy to pipe up, just to clarify. I know the mount system is completely different, but I don't have a mk1 trans to look at to see if you could just swap some stuff around to make it work. The mk1 trans issue was what stopped me from fixing those cars up many years ago, I just couldn't find any good trannies, and couldn't trust the used ones to last long enough to sell the cars with confidence.

I have both. I'll look next time I'm in the shop... if I remember.

Pretty sure I did it without any issues though
