Recently noticed a "tinney rattle noise" under car, and sounds like a heat shield? My car is
a stock '98 metro 3 cyl. This rattle noise has been occuring about 2 weeks now, and just yesterday morning and today have noticed a lack of power going uphill. Has anyone had trouble with a Cat Converter pluging up exhaust? Am fairly new to metros, so any input would be helpful, thanks!

I see more plugged cats on these cars than good ones. Usually due to low compression and burnt valves. I suggest you perform a compression test. The is a guide in the howto section.

I have been noticing a squeaking/high pitch rattle also at only select low rpms and especially from a stop. When under the car it sounds like it's coming from the cat but when I manually shake the exhaust with the car off I don't hear anything? could it be something on the engine? any advice on what tends to loosen up on the bottom engine area/exhaust/cat area? thanks

Mine passes easily as well. I have done the compression test but I think I have a lot of carbon buildup as my #s were 210-220 so idk

Check the resonator. Mine fell apart internally. Sounded just like a cat.

 welcome to post from 2010
