hey i have a 8910 can i use that or do i have to buy a 8910esi ? i have a swift gti dohc 1.3 with a ss blaster n a 6a msd

An MSD can apparently be used on a 3 cylinder if it's set to 6 cylinder wasted spark. Search some of t3 ragtop's post for more info on this.

I was running a Jacob's Ice Pak for a while,
only problem was I was toasting caps & rotors
every 3000 miles.

I would imagine any other increased spark ignition
upgrade would do the same thing. I'm running
a Blaster coil right now, and seems to be fine, though
not nearly the spark that the Jacobs provided.

ok i called MSD they told me to get itnition box
Part # 5520 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSD-5520/

and Blaster ss coil Part # 8207 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSD-8207/

then i called summit racing and asked if they had a Summit brand version of the box. They said yes and the part # is 850610

soooo which box is better?

actually, the stock ignition on the 3 banger is pretty good, sufficient for the engine for the most part.

on a 94 the ignition is controlled by the ecu. if you connect the msd spark control to the module in the distributor you will lose the ignition mapping. if you use the signal from the ignitor that's internal on the ecu you retain the ignition mapping but just add the multiple spark from the msd with no real performance gains. the msd coil to replace the stock coil isn't too expensive but the msd spark control breaks the bank.

it looks cool and all but i figured that there were better performance gains that could be had for that kind of money. sink the cash into a 3 tech performance cam and a 2" exhaust. :wink:

ive got a headers and a 2" exhaust

$135 doesnt for a msd setup doesnt really break the bank lol

im not looking for performance just fuel economy
