 Post subject: Braking problem

Brakes on 95 swift seemed weak since I bought 2 years ago ( had to push to floor ) changed front pads, rotors, calipers and rear shoes wheel cylinders. Bled system well. Pedal travel still excessive, changed out master cylinder as it seemed to fit symptoms ( common opinion on internet searches) did not help. When I brake you can hear a slight shudder ( like the rotors ot drums are warped). I did not change drums, wondering if they're worn so bad the wheel cylinder has to open too far and that causes excessive pedal travel. Any replies with similar problems and solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thank-you in advance for any responses.

on the drums you might have to adjust the shoes to acomidate the new shoes. That would make the wheel cylinders have to extend further to get the right amount of presure against the drum ie low pedal. i would get new drums as they are not expencive and it is part of the most important part of any car, the one area you dont want to save a buck. you might also be able to have them turned if they are still within spec. try drive in reverse and making some moderate stops. and use you park brake a few times under the same conditions. that helps the self adjuster catch up with the new shoes.

there are specific limits to the widths of the front disc and rear drum, measured with a precision tool. better had look up these values in a factory manual, compare and check to see if they are out of spec. other than that your rotors are warped . cheap chinese replacements can be bought on ebay.
you can also tighten up the slack on your rear brake cable to that there is less pedal travel but the rear brakes are not touching.
